Hello, bonjour! My name is Charlotte Chambers and this is my first summer working for CHS. In April, I completed my first year of university for my Bachelor of Biological Sciences and I will be returning for my second year in the fall. In the meantime, I have been making the most of my time off! In May I did a couple of weeks of training with the CHS, Métis Local, and Parks Canada crew and then I was off to Montréal, Québec for 5 weeks to take part in Explore, which is a government funded program designed to help university students learn and/or improve their French. As I am a former French Immersion student, the program was a great way to refresh my memory! I made friends with other students from all over Canada and now I am well prepared to provide service to visitors at the site in both of Canada’s official languages as well as for our French day camps.
Although I was sad to leave Québec, I’m excited to back in my hometown of Rocky Mountain House. I get to live right near some of the best hiking trails in the world and I get to see all of my seven family members on a regular basis! I am the oldest of six girls, so as you can probably imagine, my house is a very busy place. I have triplet sisters that are 17, a sister that is 13 and one that is 11. All of us are involved in various sports and jobs this summer, so it’s pretty rare to find us all in the same place at the same time.
I am also really excited to spend my summer out at the Historic Site running the front desk, doing the puppet show, taking care of the heritage garden, helping out with summer camp, and all of the other odd jobs that come as a part of working for CHS. So far it’s been a great summer and the rest of it promises to be too!
